The 4th of July Trifle is a vibrant, no-bake dessert that combines layers of whipped vanilla cream, fresh berries, and soft cake. Perfect for summer gatherings and patriotic celebrations, this colorful dessert is both refreshing and visually striking, ideal for celebrating Independence Day.

Ingredients

1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 ½ cups cold heavy whipping cream

12 oz strawberries, hulled and sliced

6 oz blueberries

8 oz pound cake or ladyfingers, cubed

Optional: strawberry jam or berry compote for an extra fruity layer

Extra berries for garnish

Fresh mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Cream Layer: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth. Add vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated. Gradually pour in the cold heavy cream while beating on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. The finished cream should be light, fluffy, and stable enough to layer.
  2. Prepare the Fruit: Rinse the strawberries and blueberries under cold water and dry them thoroughly. Slice the strawberries into halves or quarters, depending on their size, and set aside along with the blueberries.
  3. Assemble the Trifle Cups: Place a layer of cake cubes at the bottom of each clear cup or trifle dish. Spoon a layer of the prepared cream mixture over the cake. Add a layer of sliced strawberries and blueberries. Repeat the layers—cake, cream, berries—until the cups are filled. For added flavor, you can include a thin layer of strawberry jam or berry compote between the cake and cream if desired. Finish with a final spoonful of cream on top, then garnish with whole berries and a mint sprig.
  4. Chill: Cover and refrigerate the trifle cups for at least 1 hour before serving. This allows the layers to set and the flavors to blend well.

Notes

This dessert can be made ahead of time, and it tastes even better after chilling overnight.

For a lighter texture, substitute whipped cream for the cream cheese layer.

If you don’t have trifle cups, you can use small mason jars or a large trifle dish for assembly.
