Air Fryer Plantain Chips are a healthy, crispy snack made with just a few ingredients. They’re gluten-free and perfect for satisfying cravings without the guilt, delivering that perfect crunch without deep frying.

Ingredients

1 Green Plantain

1 tbsp Avocado Oil

1 pinch Salt

2 cups Cold Filtered Water

Instructions

  1. Score the plantain lengthwise after submerging it in hot water. Cut off the ends of the plantain and remove the thick skin. For easier peeling, soak the plantain in hot water for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Use a mandoline slicer to cut the plantain into thin, even slices. If you don’t have a mandoline, use a grater with a slicing blade, ensuring the slices are thin to ensure crispiness.
  3. Soak the sliced plantains in a bowl of cold water and salt for 10 minutes. Rinse and drain them well, then pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess starch.
  4. Drizzle avocado oil over the plantain slices and coat each slice evenly using a pastry brush. Add a pinch of salt for flavor.
  5. Place the plantain slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 450°F (230°C) for 6-7 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. Keep an eye on the chips, checking every 2-3 minutes to avoid burning.
  6. Once crispy and golden brown, remove the chips from the air fryer and serve immediately. Add more salt if desired and enjoy your homemade plantain chips!

Notes

If you prefer spicy chips, sprinkle cayenne pepper or chili powder on the plantains before cooking.

For extra flavor, try adding garlic powder, paprika, or dried thyme to the chips.

For a sweet variation, drizzle honey or sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the cooked chips.

Store leftover chips in an airtight container for up to 2 days. To restore crispiness, reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes.
