This apple crisp with oats is a cozy dessert made with tender, sweet-tart apples and a crunchy oat topping. Perfect served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

6 cups tart apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced

1/2 cup lemon juice

1 cup old-fashioned oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup dark brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice and half of the brown sugar in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, remaining brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
  4. Spread apple mixture evenly in a baking dish. Sprinkle oat mixture over the top.
  5. Bake for 35–40 minutes until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  6. Cool slightly before serving, ideally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Add chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping for extra crunch.

Swap in pears or a mix of apples and berries for variety.

For a lighter version, reduce sugar and drizzle honey instead.

Store in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat before serving.
