A nostalgic, old-fashioned apple rollup dessert featuring tender homemade pastry wrapped around cinnamon-spiced apples and baked in a rich brown sugar sauce. Comforting, warm, and perfect for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Pastry Ingredients:

2 cups flour

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

2/3 cup butter

2/3 cup milk

Filling Ingredients:

1/2 stick melted butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

6 apples, chopped

Sauce Ingredients:

2 cups brown sugar

1 1/2 cups water

1/4 cup butter

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pastry: In a food processor, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Pulse to mix.
  2. Add butter and process until the mixture resembles small peas.
  3. Add milk and pulse again until a dough ball forms.
  4. Roll the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Prepare the filling: Peel and chop apples. Melt butter with brown sugar and cinnamon, then spread over the rolled dough.
  6. Spread the chopped apples evenly over the filling mixture.
  7. Roll the dough into a log and slice into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Place slices into a greased baking dish.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook on low for 10 minutes until thickened.
  10. Pour the sauce over the rollups.
  11. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.

Notes

Add chopped nuts such as pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.

A pinch of cardamom deepens the spice profile.

Use a mix of apple varieties for richer flavor.

Store-bought pie crust may be used for convenience.

Freeze baked rollups for later and reheat before serving.
