Brown Butter Dulce de Leche Rice Krispie Treats elevate the classic treat with the nutty richness of brown butter and the sweet caramel flavors of dulce de leche. Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 cups mini marshmallows
  • 5 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup dulce de leche

Instructions

  • Brown the Butter: Melt butter in a pan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once it starts foaming, keep stirring until it turns golden brown with brown flecks. Remove from heat immediately.
  • Melt Marshmallows: Add marshmallows to the browned butter, stirring until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Add Rice Krispies: Mix in the Rice Krispies and sea salt until evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  • Layer with Dulce de Leche: Press half of the Rice Krispies mixture into a pan, then spread the dulce de leche over it. Top with the remaining Rice Krispies mixture and gently press down.
  • Cool and Slice: Let the treats cool completely, then slice into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For a churro-inspired twist, use cinnamon sugar Rice Krispies.
  • Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra crunch and flavor.
  • These treats can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze for up to 1 month if you want to store them longer.
