These chocolate cake mix donuts are quick, fluffy, and versatile. Made with a boxed cake mix, they’re easy to bake in the oven or a mini donut maker and can be decorated with chocolate glaze, vanilla glaze, or festive sprinkles for any occasion.

Ingredients

1 box (15.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix (or any flavor)

1 large egg

1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

3/4 cup milk

Assorted sprinkles (for decorating)

1 container chocolate frosting (for chocolate glaze)

1 cup confectioners’ sugar (for vanilla glaze)

12 tablespoons milk (for vanilla glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease donut pans with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together the cake mix, egg, melted butter, and milk until smooth.
  3. Transfer the batter to a piping bag or resealable bag and pipe into the donut pans.
  4. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. For mini donut maker: preheat as directed, pipe in batter, and cook for 7–8 minutes until cooked through.
  7. For chocolate glaze: microwave frosting 30–60 seconds until slightly runny, then drizzle over cooled donuts and add sprinkles.
  8. For vanilla glaze: stir confectioners’ sugar with milk until smooth; dip donuts into glaze, then decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

Swap chocolate cake mix for other flavors like red velvet, funfetti, or spice.

Add-ins like mini chocolate chips or crushed cookies enhance texture.

Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze (unglazed) up to 2 months.

Glaze just before serving for best results.

Gluten-free cake mix works well for a gluten-free version.
