Churro Cruffins combine the crispy, sugary goodness of churros with the flaky layers of a cruffin. Fried to golden perfection and rolled in cinnamon sugar, these indulgent treats make for the perfect breakfast, brunch, or dessert. Quick to prepare, customizable, and irresistibly delicious!

Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet and brush lightly with melted butter.
  2. Shape the Cruffins: Roll the pastry sheet into a log, slice into 8 equal rounds, and fan each round into a rosette shape, tucking the edges under to form a muffin-like shape.
  3. Heat the Oil: Heat 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C), ensuring consistent oil temperature for even frying.
  4. Fry the Cruffins: Fry the cruffins in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until puffed and golden brown. Drain excess oil on paper towels.
  5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Roll warm cruffins in cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately for the best crispness and flavor.

Notes

For a filled version, add whipped cream, chocolate ganache, or Nutella to the cruffins before frying.

Feel free to add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon sugar for added depth of flavor.

For a decadent touch, dip the finished cruffins in melted chocolate.
