Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • Food coloring (choose your preferred colors)
  • 1 bag of cotton candy (various colors)
  • Lollipop sticks or wooden skewers

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apples: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a lollipop stick or wooden skewer into the top of each apple.
  • Make the Candy Coating: In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, and light corn syrup. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Color the Syrup: Once the syrup begins to boil, remove it from the heat and stir in your chosen food coloring.
  • Dip the Apples: Let the syrup cool for about 1 minute, then carefully dip each apple into the syrup, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow excess syrup to drip off.
  • Set the Coating: Place the coated apples on parchment paper and let them cool until the candy coating hardens.
  • Add Cotton Candy: Once the candy coating is firm, wrap a small amount of cotton candy around the top of each apple for a playful finish.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture and tart flavor.
  • Gel food coloring is recommended for vibrant color without affecting the syrup consistency.
  • To make the coating shinier, ensure the syrup reaches the hard-crack stage (300°F/150°C) for a glossy finish.
  • You can add flavored extracts like vanilla or cherry to the syrup for an added taste.
