These Crispy Crab Rangoon Bites are a homemade twist on a takeout favorite, featuring a creamy crab filling inside a crispy wonton wrapper. Perfect for parties, snacks, or any occasion, they’re irresistibly delicious with a crunchy exterior and savory, cheesy interior.

Ingredients

For the Filling:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

4 oz lump crab meat (or imitation crab), finely chopped

1 scallion, finely sliced

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon soy sauce

For the Assembly:

20 wonton wrappers

Vegetable oil, for frying

Small bowl of water (for sealing wrappers)

For Serving:

Sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, crab meat, scallions, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Mix until smooth and well blended.
  2. Assemble the Crab Rangoons:
    • Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean, flat surface.
    • Place about 1 teaspoon of the crab mixture in the center of each wrapper.
    • Dip your finger in the small bowl of water and lightly wet the edges of the wonton wrapper.
    • Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle shape, or pinch all corners toward the center to create a star shape. Seal the edges tightly to prevent the filling from spilling out during frying.
  3. Fry the Crab Rangoon Bites:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the wontons in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Be sure not to overcrowd the pan to ensure even cooking.
    • Transfer the fried crab rangoons to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  4. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the Crab Rangoon Bites warm with sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

Imitation Crab: If you can’t find lump crab meat, imitation crab works just as well and provides a similar taste and texture.

Gluten-Free: To make these crab rangoons gluten-free, substitute the wonton wrappers with gluten-free wrappers or use rice paper.

Cheesy Twist: Add a bit of shredded cheese (such as mozzarella) to the filling for an extra cheesy version of this classic.
