Ingredients

For the Fried Mushrooms:

  • 1 lb fresh mushrooms (baby bella, cremini, or button mushrooms work well)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch or regular breadcrumbs for classic texture)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cool Ranch Dip:

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Prep the Mushrooms: Clean mushrooms with a damp cloth, pat them dry, and remove stems if desired.
  • Set Up the Breading Station: Place flour in a shallow bowl, beaten eggs in a second bowl, and mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a third.
  • Bread the Mushrooms: Dredge mushrooms in flour, dip in eggs, then coat with seasoned breadcrumbs.
  • Fry the Mushrooms: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Fry mushrooms for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Make the Cool Ranch Dip: Whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon juice, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
  • Serve: Arrange fried mushrooms on a platter and serve with the ranch dip on the side. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the ranch dip.
  • Experiment with different mushrooms like portobello or shiitake for a unique flavor.
  • To make this gluten-free, substitute breadcrumbs and flour with gluten-free options.
  • Serve with other dipping sauces such as garlic aioli or spicy ketchup for variety.
