Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Pastel sanding sugar (pink, yellow, green, blue)
  • 24 Hershey Hugs or Kisses

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Pour sanding sugar into separate bowls.
  • Make the Dough: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract, mixing well. Gradually blend in flour, baking soda, salt, and milk until a dough forms.
  • Shape & Coat: Roll dough into 1-tablespoon balls, coat in sanding sugar, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake: Bake for 8-10 minutes or until just set. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  • Add the Kiss: Press a Hershey Kiss or Hug into each cookie’s center while warm. Let cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Flavor Variations: Swap almond extract for lemon or coconut extract for a different twist.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use a gluten-free flour blend with xanthan gum.
  • Vegan Alternative: Use plant-based butter, a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water), and dairy-free chocolate.
  • Toppings: Drizzle with melted chocolate for an extra decorative touch.
