These easy-to-make sliders are perfect for dinner or as an appetizer for any gathering. They combine the comfort of garlic bread with the rich, tangy flavors of sloppy joes for a crowd-pleasing dish.

Ingredients

For the Bread:

1 loaf Italian bread

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1 teaspoon garlic salt

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

1 pound ground beef

¼ cup yellow onion, chopped

½ teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

¾ cup ketchup

½ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup water

For the Topping:

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bread:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the loaf of Italian bread lengthwise and place both halves cut side up on the baking sheet.

  • Make the Garlic Butter:
In a small bowl, combine softened butter and garlic salt. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Set aside.

  • Make the Sloppy Joe Filling:
In a medium nonstick skillet, cook ground beef and chopped onions over medium heat until the beef is browned and no longer pink (about 8-10 minutes). Drain any excess grease. Stir in garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper, and water. Mix together and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  • Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the garlic-buttered bread halves. Top with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

  • Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

  • Serve:
Remove from the oven and cut into slices. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

Air Fryer Version: Air fry the bread for 5 minutes at 400°F until the cheese is melted and golden.

Add Veggies: You can include bell peppers or mushrooms in the sloppy joe mixture for extra flavor and texture.
