Homemade Cherry Amaretto Jam combines the sweet and tart flavors of cherries with the warm, nutty notes of amaretto liqueur. A delicious spread for toast, cakes, or ice cream!

Ingredients

4 cups fresh or frozen cherries, pitted

2 cups granulated sugar

¼ cup fresh lemon juice

2 tbsp amaretto liqueur

1 tsp almond extract (optional)

1 tbsp pectin (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare cherries by pitting them. If using frozen cherries, thaw before starting.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, and lemon juice. Let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Use a potato masher to mash the cherries and simmer for 20-25 minutes until thickened.
  4. Stir in the amaretto liqueur and almond extract (optional). Simmer for 5-10 minutes to meld the flavors.
  5. If using pectin, stir it in and boil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Test consistency by placing a spoonful on a cold plate; if it wrinkles and holds its shape, it’s done.
  7. Carefully ladle the jam into sterilized jars. Seal and let cool before storing.

Notes

For a spicier twist, add cinnamon or cayenne pepper to the jam.

Use other fruits like raspberries or peaches in place of cherries.

For an alcohol-free version, omit amaretto and use more almond extract.

For a low-sugar jam, reduce the sugar by half and add extra lemon juice to balance the flavor.
