Homemade Mozzarella Sticks are a crispy, cheesy snack coated in seasoned breadcrumbs, fried or baked to golden perfection. Serve them with marinara sauce for the ultimate appetizer or party snack!

Ingredients

12 oz mozzarella cheese sticks

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

2 cups breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-seasoned)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Oil for frying (if deep-frying)

Marinara sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half for bite-sized pieces, if desired.
  2. Set up the breading stations: In one bowl, place the flour; in another, beat the eggs; in a third, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the cheese: Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it’s fully covered.
  4. Place the coated cheese sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and chill in the freezer for 15-30 minutes.
  5. For frying: Heat oil in a deep fryer or pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. For baking: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet, spray lightly with cooking spray, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Leftover mozzarella sticks can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freeze the breaded sticks for up to 3 months before frying or baking.

Reheat in the oven at 375°F for 5-10 minutes, or in the microwave for a quicker reheat (though the texture will be softer).

For a spicy version, add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture.
