Maple Donut Bars are soft, fluffy, and made from scratch with a yeast dough, topped with a rich maple glaze. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F)

3/4 cup warm milk

2 tsp active dry yeast

1/2 cup + 1 tbsp granulated sugar

1/2 tsp salt

5 large eggs

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For the Maple Glaze:

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

3 tbsp milk

1 tbsp corn syrup

2 tsp maple extract

2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine flour, salt, remaining sugar, foamy yeast mixture, and eggs. Mix on medium-high speed with a dough hook until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Add softened butter and mix for another 2 minutes until no longer sticky.
  3. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough, reshape into a ball, cover again, and let rise for another hour.
  5. Roll dough into a rectangle about 3/4 inch thick. Cut into 12 bars and place on a floured baking sheet. Let rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil to 360-375°F. Fry bars for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. Let cool completely.
  7. In a saucepan, melt butter for glaze. Stir in brown sugar, milk, and corn syrup. Bring to a simmer, remove from heat, and stir in maple extract and powdered sugar.
  8. Dip cooled donut bars into glaze and place on a wire rack to set.

Notes

Add cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for a spiced flavor.

Try a vanilla or chocolate glaze as an alternative to maple.

For a baked option, bake the bars at 350°F for 15-20 minutes.

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Freeze donut bars for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or microwave to warm.
