Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)

2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)

1/2 teaspoon almond extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a square baking pan.
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and smooth.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Spread dough evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until lightly golden and set in the center.
  8. Cool completely before frosting.
  9. For frosting, mix powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until smooth and spreadable.
  10. Spread frosting evenly over cooled bars and cut into 16 squares.
