This viral onion boil recipe is wonderfully delicious and incredibly easy to make. It’s a flavorful, buttery baked onion dish seasoned with a blend of spices for a comforting and savory treat.

Ingredients

1 large yellow onion

½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning

½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon dried parsley

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

⅛ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Trim the ends off both sides of the onion. Using a melon baller or spoon, scoop out the center of the onion about halfway down, creating a cavity.
  3. Place the onion in the center of a large piece of aluminum foil on a rimmed baking sheet.
  4. In a small bowl, mix all the spices together. Scoop half of this seasoning mixture into the cavity of the onion and sprinkle the rest over the onion’s surface.
  5. Pour the melted butter into the onion cavity, then add any remaining spices.
  6. Bring the foil sides together to create a sealed packet around the onion.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the onion is tender and fully cooked.
  8. Carefully open the foil and serve immediately.

Notes

Add shredded cheese over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking for a cheesy twist.

Include chopped fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra aroma.

Swap the Cajun seasoning with smoked paprika or chili powder for a different spice profile.

Serve with crusty bread to soak up the buttery juices.
