A warm, comforting pear crumble featuring soft caramelized pears under a golden, crispy oat topping. Simple to prepare and perfect served with custard or ice cream.

Ingredients

Pear Filling:

4 pears, peeled and sliced

30 g butter

30 g brown sugar

2 tbsp water

Crumble Topping:

100 g butter, melted

100 g brown sugar

1 cup rolled oats

110 g plain flour

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (fan bake).
  2. In a shallow casserole dish over low heat, melt butter and brown sugar until bubbling.
  3. Add sliced pears, stir to coat, then add water. Simmer 5 minutes until pears begin to soften. Remove from heat.
  4. In a bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, oats, flour, and cinnamon until combined.
  5. Spread crumble mixture evenly over pears.
  6. Bake about 30 minutes, or until topping is crisp and golden.
  7. Serve warm with custard or ice cream.

Notes

Add chopped nuts like almonds or walnuts for extra crunch.

Increase cinnamon or add nutmeg for a warmer spice profile.

Mix apples with pears for extra texture.

Swap part of the sugar for maple syrup for a lighter flavor.

Use dairy-free butter to make the recipe dairy-free.
