Ingredients

4 slices bread

Butter (for spreading)

2 teaspoons oil

1 small onion, sliced

½ red bell pepper, sliced

1 cup thinly sliced steak

Dash of hot sauce

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Butter one side of each piece of bread and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add sliced onion, red bell pepper, and steak. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.
  3. Stir in a dash of hot sauce and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Place one slice of bread, butter side down, in a small frying pan.
  5. Add a slice of provolone cheese, then the beef and vegetable mixture, followed by another slice of cheese.
  6. Top with the second slice of bread, butter side up.
  7. Cook over medium-low heat until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is melted, flipping carefully.
  8. Repeat for the second sandwich.
  9. Slice sandwiches before serving.

Notes

Use different cheese such as American, mozzarella, or cheddar.

Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor and spice.

Substitute steak with thinly sliced chicken or turkey.

Serve with au jus or ketchup for dipping.

Cover the pan briefly while cooking to help melt the cheese.
