Pizza Tater Tot Casserole is a crowd-pleasing, cheesy comfort food dish that combines the flavors of classic pizza with the crispy texture of tater tots. Loaded with meat, veggies, and melty mozzarella, it’s perfect for weeknight dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

1 lb lean ground beef

1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed

1 medium yellow onion, diced

1 medium green bell pepper, diced

1 tablespoon minced garlic

3 oz pepperoni slices, chopped

14 oz pizza sauce

2 tablespoons Italian seasoning

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

28 oz frozen tater tots

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Additional pepperoni slices

Fresh chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and sausage over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add onion and bell pepper. Sauté until softened. Add garlic and cook 2 minutes more.
  4. Stir in chopped pepperoni, pizza sauce, and Italian seasoning. Mix well and heat through.
  5. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread meat mixture evenly in the dish.
  6. Top with 1 cup mozzarella cheese, then arrange tater tots in a single layer on top.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes until tater tots are golden and crispy.
  8. Top with remaining 1 cup mozzarella and extra pepperoni. Bake an additional 5 minutes until cheese melts.
  9. Let rest a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Make it vegetarian by using plant-based meat or extra vegetables.

Add crushed red pepper or spicy sausage for heat.

Swap pizza sauce with marinara or arrabbiata for variety.

For extra crispiness, broil the top for a couple of minutes at the end.
