Puffed Bananas and Caramel is a simple yet elegant dessert featuring crispy puff pastry, warm bananas, and a rich homemade caramel sauce. This treat combines flaky pastry, gooey caramel, and sweet bananas for a delightful bite every time.

Ingredients

4 bananas

½ sheet puff pastry (cut into strips)

Icing sugar (for dusting)

125g unsalted butter

125g caster sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
  2. Lay out the puff pastry strips. Place each banana on top of a pastry strip, and lightly dust with icing sugar.
  3. Wrap the pastry around the banana lengthwise, fully enclosing it. Place the wrapped bananas on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden and puffed.
  4. Meanwhile, make the caramel sauce: melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the caster sugar and stir until the mixture reaches a smooth caramel consistency. Remove from heat.
  5. Once the bananas are baked and golden, remove them from the oven and drizzle with the hot caramel sauce. Serve warm.

Notes

Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the caramel sauce for a spiced twist.

For added texture, sprinkle chopped nuts like almonds or walnuts on top of the caramel.

For a richer dessert, drizzle melted chocolate on top of the caramel.

If you prefer, you can use other fruits like apples or pears instead of bananas.
