Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with this festive and minty Puppy Chow (Muddy Buddies)! Made with crunchy Rice Chex cereal coated in green candy melts and powdered sugar, this sweet snack is easy to make and perfect for parties, gifting, or a fun holiday treat.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 bag green candy melts
  • 1 drop spearmint essential oil or 1 teaspoon mint extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Green M&M’s
  • Shamrock-shaped sprinkles
  • Lucky Charms marshmallows

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cereal:

  • Place the Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.

2. Melt the Candy Melts:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, add the green candy melts.
  • Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until fully melted.
  • Stir in the spearmint essential oil or mint extract.

3. Coat the Cereal:

  • Pour the melted candy mixture over the Rice Chex cereal.
  • Gently stir until all pieces are evenly coated.

4. Coat with Powdered Sugar:

  • Place the powdered sugar in a large ziplock bag.
  • Add the coated cereal to the bag, seal it, and shake well until all pieces are covered.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Spread the coated cereal onto a large baking sheet to cool and set (about 15-20 minutes).
  • Once cooled, transfer to a serving bowl or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Flavor Twist: Use white chocolate or vanilla candy melts with green food coloring instead of green candy melts.
  • Nut-Free Option: Omit the mint flavoring or use a nut-free mint extract.
