REESE’S Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake is a decadent dessert that combines the best of chocolate and peanut butter into one mouthwatering treat. With gooey, molten pockets of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups embedded into a soft, moist chocolate cake, this dessert is sure to please any peanut butter and chocolate lover.

Ingredients

1 box of chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients specified on the package – usually eggs, oil, and water)

2430 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (mini or regular size)

Optional toppings: Powdered sugar, Whipped cream, Caramel drizzle, Chopped peanuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to the temperature recommended on the cake mix box, typically 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the cake batter: Follow the instructions on the cake mix package to make the batter. Once ready, pour half of the batter into a greased bundt pan or round cake pan.
  3. Add the peanut butter cups: Place the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups evenly over the surface of the batter, leaving some space between them.
  4. Top with remaining batter: Pour the rest of the cake batter over the peanut butter cups, ensuring they stay near the surface for maximum gooey effect.
  5. Bake the cake: Place the pan in the oven and bake according to the time on the cake box, usually 35–45 minutes. Use a toothpick to check doneness; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs (melted peanut butter is fine).
  6. Cool the cake: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

If using both mini and regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, mini cups will create more even distribution while regular cups will create larger peanut butter pockets.

Grease the pan well and leave space between the peanut butter cups to prevent sticking.

The cake can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container. It will stay fresh and gooey the next day.

Optional toppings include powdered sugar, whipped cream, caramel drizzle, or chopped peanuts. You can also add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Feel free to add chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the cake batter for added texture.
