These spooky-cute Skeleton Cupcakes are a fun and festive Halloween treat featuring chocolate cupcakes, mini marshmallow skeletons, and a touch of creativity. Perfect for parties or family baking traditions!

Ingredients

12 chocolate cupcakes (homemade or store-bought)

1 cup chocolate frosting (store-bought or homemade)

48 mini marshmallows (about 4 per skeleton)

12 large marshmallows (1 per skeleton head)

12 lollipop sticks or pretzel rods

1 black edible marker or black decorating gel

Crushed chocolate cookies (optional, for “dirt”)

Pretzel sticks or yogurt-covered pretzels (optional, for arms/legs)

Instructions

  1. Bake or buy chocolate cupcakes. Let them cool completely before decorating.
  2. Frost each cupcake with a generous amount of chocolate frosting to create the base for the skeleton.
  3. Thread 3-4 mini marshmallows onto each lollipop stick or pretzel rod to form the skeleton’s body.
  4. Top the body with a large marshmallow as the skeleton’s head.
  5. Use a black edible marker or black decorating gel to draw spooky or funny faces on the marshmallow heads.
  6. Insert the skeleton stick into the center of each frosted cupcake, making sure it stands up straight.
  7. For added effect, you can add broken pretzel sticks for arms and legs. You can also sprinkle crushed chocolate cookies on the cupcakes to create a “dirt” effect.
  8. Once everything is assembled, your Skeleton Cupcakes are ready to serve. Enjoy your frightfully fun Halloween treat!

Notes

For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free cupcakes and pretzels.

For a vegan version, substitute marshmallows and frosting with vegan alternatives.

Add gummy worms or candy spiders for extra creepy decoration.

Try different faces on the skeletons with colored icing or candy eyes.
