Sweet Mochi Rolls with Banana Filling are a deliciously chewy dessert combining the sticky texture of traditional mochi with the natural sweetness of ripe bananas. This simple, gluten-free treat offers a unique twist on classic mochi, making it a perfect snack or light dessert. The easy-to-follow recipe can be customized with various fillings and is a great introduction to making mochi at home.

Ingredients

1 cup glutinous rice flour

¼ cup sugar

½ cup water

1 ripe banana

½ tsp vanilla extract

Cornstarch (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine glutinous rice flour, sugar, and water. Stir until smooth.

  2. Pour the mixture into a heatproof dish and steam for 20-30 minutes, until the dough thickens and becomes sticky.

  3. Remove the steamed dough and let it cool slightly.

  4. Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Dust your hands with cornstarch to prevent sticking.

  5. Cut the banana into small pieces and mash it lightly.

  6. Take small portions of the mochi dough, flatten them into circles, and place a spoonful of mashed banana in the center.

  7. Fold the edges of the dough over the banana to form a roll.

  8. Dust the rolls lightly with cornstarch to prevent sticking.

  9. Serve immediately or refrigerate for later.

Variations: You can substitute bananas with other fruits such as mango, strawberries, or a mix of tropical fruits. For a richer treat, try adding a spoonful of chocolate spread or melted chocolate as a filling.

Vegan Version: This recipe is already plant-based. If desired, substitute sugar with maple syrup or another natural sweetener.

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Freeze for up to 1 month, and thaw at room temperature before serving.
