Cherry Chocolate Chewy Cookies are soft, fudgy chocolate cookies filled with sweet bursts of dried cherries and melty chocolate chips. They are perfect for holidays, cookie exchanges, or an everyday homemade treat.

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks / 226 g) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100 g) packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour

1/2 cup (45 g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup (170 g) semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup (150 g) dried cherries or chopped maraschino cherries, well drained

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and dried cherries or well-drained chopped maraschino cherries.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers remain soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor or white chocolate for contrast.

Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra texture.

A pinch of espresso powder enhances the chocolate flavor.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Freeze baked cookies or unbaked dough for up to 3 months.

Warm a cookie in the microwave for 10–15 seconds before serving for a freshly baked texture.
