Fresh, juicy strawberries are coated in a rich, silky cream mixture for a refreshing yet indulgent classic Mexican dessert. This quick no-cook treat is perfect for family gatherings, celebrations, or an easy make-ahead sweet.

Ingredients

1 1/2 to 2 lbs. fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, and sliced lengthwise

2 tablespoons sugar

3/4 cup Mexican crema

2 cups heavy cream

1 (14.5 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries, remove the stems, and slice them lengthwise.
  2. Place the sliced strawberries in a large bowl, sprinkle with the sugar, and let them sit for a few minutes to release their natural juices.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the Mexican crema, heavy cream, and sweetened condensed milk until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Divide the strawberries evenly among clear glasses, bowls, or jars.
  5. Pour the cream mixture over the strawberries until the containers are nearly full.
  6. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

Substitute raspberries, peaches, blackberries, blueberries, bananas, mangoes, or cherries for the strawberries if desired.

Sour cream or Greek yogurt may be used instead of Mexican crema; stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of heavy cream for a smoother consistency.

Half-and-half can replace heavy cream for a lighter dessert.

Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Do not freeze, as the cream may separate and the fruit will soften.

Serve chilled and do not reheat.
