Hoisin Orange Roasted Whole Chicken is a flavorful Asian-inspired dish featuring a whole chicken marinated and roasted with a sweet, tangy glaze of hoisin sauce and fresh orange juice, resulting in tender, juicy meat and caramelized skin.

Ingredients

1 whole chicken (about 45 pounds)

1/2 cup hoisin sauce

1/2 cup fresh orange juice

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger

5 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 orange, sliced (for stuffing and garnish)

Fresh cilantro or green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix hoisin sauce, orange juice, soy sauce, honey, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Rinse and pat dry the chicken. Place on a roasting pan.
  4. Pour half the marinade over the chicken, ensuring it gets under the skin. Reserve the rest for basting.
  5. Stuff the chicken cavity with orange slices.
  6. Roast chicken for about 1 hour, basting every 20 minutes with reserved marinade.
  7. Check doneness with a meat thermometer; it should read 165°F (74°C) in the thickest thigh part.
  8. Remove chicken and let rest for 10 minutes before carving.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions before serving.
