Soft and buttery sugar cookie bars topped with creamy frosting and festive red, white, and blue sprinkles. A simple and crowd-pleasing dessert perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)

2 cups powdered sugar

23 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Pinch of salt

Red, white, and blue sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Mix in egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Press dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes until edges are lightly golden and center is set.
  8. Cool completely in the pan.
  9. For frosting, beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar gradually.
  10. Add cream, vanilla extract, and salt, and beat until smooth and fluffy.
  11. Spread frosting over cooled bars and top with sprinkles.
  12. Lift from pan, slice into bars, and serve.
